Choose the Quilting Calculation You Need
Quilting yardage is easier to plan when each part of the quilt is calculated separately. Backing, binding, borders, sashing, batting and quilt-top pieces use different formulas and different cutting constraints.
Start with the part of the quilt you are planning now
Use backing tools for panel direction and seams, binding tools for strip count and perimeter, block tools for rows and columns, and batting tools for overage and roll width. Keeping these jobs separate produces clearer results than forcing every quilting question into one oversized tool.
